Mining Museum Příbram - Anna Mine

The sightseeing area B "Anna Mine" in the area of the Anna Mine, which was established in 1789, starts with the Anna Mine cache with an exhibition on metallurgy and processing. From the cache room or directly from the courtyard, it is possible to enter the underground and take a ride on the mine train through the 260 m long Prokop adit, which leads to the mouth of the Prokop pit from 1832, the deepest shaft in the Brzeg Mountains (1600 m) and one of the deepest shafts in Central Europe. The tour of the underground adit also includes a demonstration of historical mining work. The tour continues in the engine room of the Anna Mine with a technical monument, one of the most precious exhibits of the Mining Museum in Březové Hory, a Breitfeld & Daněk steam mining machine from 1914. The next part of the tour starts on the lowest floor of the Anna Mine's mine cache, from where a special elevator takes you underground. The historic mine workings, the so-called Wasserlauf - water floor, were built gradually from the 16th to the 19th century as part of a water system designed to power mining and processing equipment. An underground passageway 750 m long connects the Anna Mine with the Vojtěch Mine. The route is partly along metal grates above the floor of the passageway, along which water flows. During the tour, you can see unique water wheel chambers, historic workings and ore chimneys. The tour is more physically demanding (there are 156 steps at the exit of the underground).

The third part of the tour allows you to visit the unique water wheel chamber, which powered mining machinery in the 19th century and from which a valuable shaft torso has been preserved. This underground space is accessed by elevator in a similar way to the Wasserlauf. There are 60 steps back and forth along the 100 m long route.

In 2016, another part of the underground was opened in the Mining Museum Příbram. The route called Jánský důl (Jánský Mine) leads through the connecting trench between the Anna Mine, which was sunk in 1789, and the Prokop pit from 1832 to the embankment of the first floor of this mine at a depth of 44 metres. The circuit around the Jánská pit, which dates back to the first third of the 18th century, includes part of the drainage gallery of Charles of Bohemia, probably founded in 1708, as well as a waterwheel chamber.

Thanks to the described route, the underground tour is extended by a further 810 metres: a large underground tour of 1,560 metres, which connects this part, which was opened two years ago, with the original Wasserlauf route, thus offers 90 minutes of adventurous wandering through the historic mine workings.

The tours start every hour in the Anna Mine's cache room and are limited to 15 people. This tour, which involves climbing a short section of ladder and passing through a narrow adit, is not suitable for people with reduced mobility or claustrophobia.

The access to the historical underground is due to the friendly behaviour of the Příbram Mining District Office and the exemplary cooperation with the state enterprise DIAMO, which in a generous and highly professional manner deals with the securing of old mining works and their preservation for future generations, as they are in many cases European and world unique.
