WITH A HEART ON THE HILL AND IN THE MINE
30th Meeting of Mining Towns and Municipalities of the Czech republic 19th European Day of Miners and Metallurgists
12 - 14 June 2026 in Příbram
Metallurgical Museum of the Příbram Metallurgical Plant
The Příbram metallurgical works continue the famous tradition of silver and lead production from ores mined in the Příbram region, when at the end of the 19th century the c.k. Silver Works produced more than 90% of the silver of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy. Nowadays, the company produces lead and precious metals by recycling, recycles electrical waste and light sources, and manufactures various products from lead and its alloys.
It has been operating on its current site since 1786, 240 years ago. During this long period of activity, many old buildings and artefacts have been preserved at the smelter.
The only original building of the smelter, formerly used as a smelting warehouse, has been restored to its original state and on the ground floor, some of the old equipment used in the smelter is displayed in 12 rooms (dungeons) and information panels provide partial information about the history of the smelter. The first floor, after sensitive reconstruction, serves as a training centre.
Large-scale exhibits, the main one being the shaft furnace from 1860, which was in operation until 1997, a world unique, are placed in an open outdoor area.
